About the Author

Alyssa Currier

Alyssa serves as Associate Legal Counsel for the Human Trafficking Institute. Alyssa was previously an attorney at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees as part of the U.S. protection and resettlement unit in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining UNHCR, she worked for the refugee program at Human Rights Watch, advocated on behalf of forcibly displaced women with International Justice Mission in Uganda, and represented victims of human rights abuses before the International Criminal Court in The Hague. In law school, she provided direct legal services to asylum-seekers fleeing gender-based violence. Alyssa holds a JD from The George Washington University Law School and a BA from Northwestern College. She lives in Washington, DC.
